Our Eurocentral plant, a £56 million investment by parent company News International, at Motherwell, in Scotland, was officially opened by Scotland's First Minister, the Rt. Hon. Alex Salmond in April 2008. He was joined for the occasion by News Corporation chairman and chief executive Rupert Murdoch.
The purpose built plant, which replaced an aging press hall on a cramped inner city industrial estate, houses a triple-wide manroland Colorman XXL press. This has the distinction of being, to date at least, the largest and fastest newspaper printing press in the world. Eurocentral can print a 144-page tabloid straight in a single pass on the press at speeds up to 86,000 copies an hour.
The result? Hugely efficient newspaper manufacturing for News International titles and our third party contract print customers, saving both time and money. As part of our drive to attain world class status, we recently gained ISO 9001 and 14001 accreditation for our Quality Management System and Environmental Management system respectively.
The plant currently prints northern editions of The Sun, The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph and the Glasgow Solicitors Property Guide which has peaked at over 180 full colour pages weekly. We also print a number of flagship regional titles including The Edinburgh Evening News, The Falkirk Herald and Fife Free Press.
